Rachel Hannah Weiszย (/vaษชs/;ย born 7 March 1970)ย is an English actress. Known for her roles in independent films and blockbusters, she has receivedย several awards, including anย Academy Award, aย BAFTA Award, aย Golden Globe Award, and aย Laurence Olivier Award.
Weisz began acting in stage and television productions in the early 1990s and made her film debut inย Death Machineย (1994). She won aย Critics' Circle Theatre Awardย for her role in the 1994 revival ofย Noรซl Coward's playย Design for Living. She went on to appear in the 1999ย Donmar Warehouseย production ofย Tennessee Williams' dramaย Suddenly Last Summer. Her film breakthrough came with her starring role asย Evelyn Carnahanย in the Hollywood action filmsย The Mummyย (1999) andย The Mummy Returns(2001). For playingย Blanche DuBoisย in a 2009 revival ofย A Streetcar Named Desire, she won theย Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress. In the 2010s, Weisz continued to star in big-budget films such as the action filmย The Bourne Legacyย (2012) and the fantasy filmย Oz the Great and Powerfulย (2013) and achieved critical acclaim for her performances in the independent filmsย The Deep Blue Sea (2011),ย Denialย (2016), andย The Favouriteย (2018).
