Martin Halm

Ernesto (Martin Halm) is a young Italian Jew of the early 1900s who works in his uncle's factory in Trieste. Not entirely secure with his sexual orientation, Ernesto enters into an affair with one of his uncle's employees--then experiments with heterosexuality, courtesy of an obliging prostitute. When the boy finds himself participating in an arranged marriage with the female twin of one of his male lovers, he finally makes the choice that will determine the direction of his subsequent sex life.

After an alleged malpractice that led to the death of his brother, heart surgeon Daniel Guth took the consequences: he gave up his beloved job and retreated into the solitude of nature. The Milhouses stay on the grand Devonshire estate of widowed lady Augusta Pritchett, whose grumpy butler Humphrey claims to hate children. Engineer Geoffrey Hynes strikes an instant friendship with William, which is however cruelly sabotaged as well as a crucial contract by his ex Vivian Palmer out of jealousy when he falls in love with Kate.
