Justin HurwitzΒ (born January 22nd, 1985)Β is an American film composer and television writer. He is best known for his longtime collaboration with directorΒ Damien Chazelle, scoring each of his films:Β Guy and Madeline on a Park BenchΒ (2009),Β WhiplashΒ (2014),Β La La LandΒ (2016),Β First Man (2018), andΒ BabylonΒ (2022).
ForΒ La La Land, Hurwitz won twoΒ Academy Awards,Β Best Original ScoreΒ andΒ Best Original SongΒ (for "City of Stars"), as well asΒ Golden Globe AwardsΒ forΒ Best Original ScoreΒ andΒ Best Original SongΒ and theΒ BAFTA Award for Best Film Music. He has won twoΒ Grammy AwardsΒ forΒ La La Land, one forΒ Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual MediaΒ and another forΒ Best Score Soundtrack For Original Media. He won two additional Golden Globes for Original Score forΒ First ManΒ andΒ Babylon.
