John Edmund Mulaneyย (born August 26, 1982) is an Americanย stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer. Born and raised inย Chicago,ย Illinois, Mulaney first rose to prominence for his work as a writer for theย NBCย sketch comedy seriesย Saturday Night Liveย from 2008 to 2013, where he contributed to numerousย sketchesย andย characters, includingย Stefon, a recurring character that he andย Bill Haderย co-created. Since he departed fromย SNL, Mulaney has hosted it six times, becoming a member of theย SNLย Five Timers Clubย in 2022.
Mulaney's stand-up specials includeย The Top Part(2009),ย New in Townย (2012),ย The Comeback Kid (2015),ย Kid Gorgeousย (2018), andย Baby Jย (2023). He won twoย Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Specialย forย Kid Gorgeous, andย Baby J.ย Mulaney released a children's musical comedy special onย Netflix,ย John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunchย (2019).
He was the creator and star of the short-lived semi-autobiographicalย Foxย sitcomย Mulaney (2014โ2015). Mulaney also performs George St. Geegland in a comedic duo withย Nick Kroll, and they appeared on television and onย Broadwayย in the showย Oh, Hello on Broadwayย (2016โ2017). Mulaney is a co-executive producer, writer, and occasional actor in theย IFC mockumentaryย seriesย Documentary Now!ย (2015โ2022). He hosted, created, and executive produced theย Netflixย talk showย John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in LAย (2024) and its spinoffย Everybody's Live with John Mulaney(2025).
