Javier Γngel Encinas BardemΒ (born 1 March 1969) is a Spanish actor. In aΒ careerΒ that has lasted over thirty years, he has receivedΒ various accolades, including anΒ Academy Award, sevenΒ Goya Awards, aΒ BAFTA Award, and aΒ Golden Globe Award.
A son of actressΒ Pilar Bardem, he first became known for such Spanish films asΒ JamΓ³n jamΓ³n(1992),Β Boca a bocaΒ (1995),Β Carne trΓ©mula(1997),Β Los lunes al solΒ (2002), andΒ Mar adentro (2004). He received nominations for theΒ Academy Award for Best ActorΒ for playingΒ Reinaldo Arenas inΒ Before Night FallsΒ (2000), a criminal with cancer inΒ BiutifulΒ (2010), andΒ Desi ArnazΒ inΒ Being the RicardosΒ (2021). His portrayal of assassinΒ Anton ChigurhΒ in theΒ Coen brothers' western filmΒ No Country for Old MenΒ (2007) won him theΒ Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.Β

Bardem married actressΒ PenΓ©lope CruzΒ in 2010, and they have two children together. In January 2018, Bardem became Greenpeace's ambassador for Antarctica's protection.
