Edgar Howard Wrightย (born 18 April 1974) is an English filmmaker. He is known for his fast-paced and kinetic, satiricalย genre films, which feature extensive utilisation of expressive popular music,ย Steadicamย tracking shots,ย dolly zoomsย and a signature editing style that includes transitions,ย whip pansย and wipes.ย He first made independent short films before making his first feature film, A Fistful of Fingers, in 1995. Wright created and directed the comedy seriesย Asylumย in 1996, written withย David Walliams. After directing several other television shows, Wright directed the sitcomย Spacedย (1999โ2001), which aired for two series and starred frequent collaboratorsย Simon Pegg andย Nick Frost.
In 2004, Wright directed the zombie comedyย Shaun of the Dead,ย starring Pegg and Frost, the first film in Wright'sย Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. The film was co-written with Peggโas were the next two entries in the trilogy, theย buddy copย filmย Hot Fuzzย (2007) and the science fiction comedyย The World's Endย (2013). In 2010, Wright co-wrote and directed the action comedy filmย Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, an adaptation ofย the graphic novel series. Along withย Joe Cornishย andย Steven Moffat, he adaptedย The Adventures of Tintinย (2011) forย Steven Spielberg. Wright and Cornish co-wrote the screenplay for theย Marvel Cinematic Universeย filmย Ant-Manย in 2015, which Wright intended to direct but abandoned, citing creative differences. He has also written and directed the action filmย Baby Driverย (2017), the documentaryย The Sparks Brothers,ย and the psychological horror filmย Last Night in Sohoย (both 2021).
