Dr. Mindlock is Hawkman's arch-nemesis, a psychic capable of controlling people, making them see illusions and a major antagonist of Chargeshock Thompson & the Justice Avengers who debuts in Season 2.
Physical Appearance
Dr. Mindlock is a tall, lean man with an imposing presence. He has jet-black hair, neatly combed back, and dark gray eyes that become noticeably brighter whenever he uses his psychic abilities. His expression is usually calm and emotionless, rarely revealing what he's thinking.
He wears a sophisticated black-and-dark-purple armored suit with a high collar, reinforced gloves and boots, and a metallic emblem resembling a stylized eye surrounded by a circular lock on his chest. His costume is deliberately sleek rather than bulky, emphasizing that his greatest weapon is his mind rather than physical strength.
When using his powers at full intensity, his eyes glow with a faint violet light.
Personality
Dr. Mindlock is calculated, patient, intimidating, and extremely manipulative. Unlike villains who enjoy causing chaos for its own sake, he prefers to carefully plan situations so that his enemies essentially defeat themselves.
He rarely raises his voice. In fact, the calmer he becomes, the more dangerous the situation usually is. He enjoys psychologically provoking his opponents and watching them question what is real.
Mindlock has an intense obsession with control. To him, free will is an illusion and people are simply unpredictable variables that can be brought under control with enough psychological pressure.
He especially enjoys challenging Hawkman because Liam's intelligence and stubborn refusal to submit make him one of the few people Mindlock genuinely struggles to control.
Despite his arrogance, Mindlock is highly observant. He studies people's habits, fears, relationships and insecurities before attempting to manipulate them.
And perhaps most importantly:
He doesn't see Liam as merely an enemy. He sees him as a challenge.
Powers and Abilities
Hypnosis: he can manipulate people into making them see illusions after making direct eye contact.
Illusion Manipulation: He can make victims perceive people, locations, objects and events that aren't actually there.
Mind Control: With prolonged eye contact, Mindlock can influence a person's actions and temporarily compel them to follow simple commands.
Memory Distortion: He can temporarily cause someone to misremember recent events, making it difficult for them to distinguish reality from his illusions.
Psychic Awareness: Mindlock can sense when someone is mentally resisting his influence.
Psychic Projection: He can project his illusions onto multiple people simultaneously, allowing an entire group to experience the same false reality.
Mental Resistance: His own mind is unusually difficult to manipulate, making him resistant to psychic attacks from other telepaths.
Strategic Intelligence: Even without his powers, Mindlock is an exceptional strategist who prefers psychological warfare over direct confrontation.
Weaknesses
His hypnosis requires direct eye contact to initially affect someone. Obstructing his vision or avoiding his gaze can prevent him from establishing the connection.
His illusions also aren't physically real. Someone who recognizes that they're being manipulated can begin breaking free of his influence.
And Liam eventually learns the most important rule of fighting Mindlock: Don't fight what you see. Fight what you know.
Trivia
His emblem represents his philosophy: the eye represents perception, while the lock represents control.
He prefers manipulating heroes into fighting each other rather than confronting them himself.
His favorite psychological tactic is making an enemy believe they've already won.
Liam's refusal to become Mindlock's puppet is ultimately what makes him his greatest enemy.
