Djakapurra Munyarryun
Djakapurra distinguished himself at a young age as a yiḏaki player, earning the right to play in ceremony and also one of his names, Ganbulapula, relating to the story of the first Yirritja moiety yiḏaki. He has also distinguished himself as a dancer, performing with and acting as Yolngu consultant for Bangarra Dance Theatre, Australia’s premier indigenous modern dance company. He was the featured Aboriginal performer at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
