Danny Lebern GloverΒ (born July 22, 1946) is an American actor, film director, and political activist. He is best known for his co-starring lead role asΒ Sergeant Roger MurtaughΒ in theΒ Lethal WeaponΒ film series.
Glover has had a variety of film, stage, and television roles. He starred as the husband toΒ Whoopi Goldberg's character, Celie in the celebrated literary adaptation of The Color Purple, and as Lieutenant James McFee in the filmΒ Witness. He had leading roles in other films includingΒ To Sleep with Anger,Β Predator 2,Β Angels in the Outfield, andΒ Operation Dumbo Drop. He won theΒ Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead for his starring role inΒ Charles Burnett'sΒ To Sleep with Anger.
Also, he has had prominent supporting roles inΒ Silverado,Β Witness,Β A Rage in Harlem,Β Dreamgirls,Β Shooter,Β Death at a Funeral, Beyond the Lights,Β Sorry to Bother You,Β The Last Black Man in San Francisco,Β The Dead Don't Die,Β Lonesome Dove and Jumanji: The Next Level. Glover earned top billing for the first time inΒ Predator 2, the sequel to theΒ science fictionΒ action filmΒ Predator. During his career, he has also made several cameos, appearing, for example, in theΒ Michael JacksonΒ video "Liberian Girl" of 1987.
In 1994, he made his directorial debut with theΒ ShowtimeΒ channel short film Override. Also in 1994, Glover and actorΒ Ben GuilloryΒ founded theΒ Robey Theatre CompanyΒ in Los Angeles, focusing on theatre by and about black people.
