Biography
Bárbara Raquel Paz (Campo Bom, October 17, 1974) is a Brazilian actress, director and producer. She began her acting career in theater, and became best known for her roles as complex and emotionally unstable women on television. Paz is the winner of several awards, including four Grandes Otelo, two Guarani Awards and a Kikito from the Gramado Festival, in addition to having received nominations for an APCA, two Quality Brazil Awards, an APTR and a Shell Award. Bárbara made her professional debut in the play Memórias da Infância (1997), but gained greater notoriety in a production of Puss in Boots (1999). Since then, she has had a prolific career on stage, standing out in critically praised productions, such as A Importancia De Ser Fiel (2002), Vestir o Pai (2003), Madame de Sade (2005), Às Favas com os Scrúpulos (2008), Hell (2010), Vênus em Visom (2014), for which she was nominated for the APTR and Shell Awards, and Gata em Telhado de Zinco Quente (2016), for which she was nominated for the APCA and Quality Brazil Awards. On television, her debut was on the program Ô... Coitado! (2000), on SBT, and gained repercussion by winning the reality show Casa dos Artistas (2001). In soap operas, she made his debut as the title protagonist in Marisol (2002) and had important roles in Cristal (2006) and Maria Esperança (2007), again as the title role. but it was in Viver a Vida (2009) that she gained critical acclaim acting as a young alcoholic. she also stood out in Morde & Assopra (2011), Amor à Vida (2013), A Regra Do Jogo (2015), O Outro Lado Do Paraíso (2017) and Além da Ilusão (2022). In cinema, her debut was in the short film De Cara Limpa (2000). She then made some smaller appearances until she was awarded at the Gramado Festival as Best Actress for the short film Produto Descarável (2003). Paz is recognized for her versatility, having worked in the most diverse genres, notably in Manual Para Atropelar Cachorro (2005), Gata Velha Ainda Mia (2013), Meu Amigo Hindu (2016), Por que Você Não Chora? (2021) and A Porta Ao Lado (2023). She established herself as a director with her award-winning documentary Babenco – Alguém Tem Que Ouvir O Coração e Dizer: Parou (2019), chosen to represent Brazil at the Oscar for best international film in 2020.
