Aquamarine (character)

Aquamarine is a fictional character and the title character in the eponymous teen fantasy book of the same name written by Alice Hoffman and its 2006 movie adaption. She is a mermaid who gets washed up in the swimming pool of a local beach club via thunderstorm on a coastal town and meets two girls named Hailey and Claire. Aquamarine is a first hesitant to be around the girls, but slowly comes around based on her attraction to Raymond, one of the beach club's employees whom she has become completely smitten with, but learns that she cannot stay with him for long based on mermaids being unable to survive on land for more than a week, which exacerbated by the chlorine in the swimming pool. But, Hailey and Claire agree to help set up a date for Aquamarine and Raymond, which she will have to return to the ocean afterwards in order to survive along with being reunited with her older sisters.
