Aaron Benjamin Sorkinย (born June 9, 1961) is an American screenwriter, playwright and film director. Born in New York City, he developed a passion for writing early on. As a writer for stage, television, and film, Sorkin is recognised for his trademark fast-paced dialogue and extended monologues, complemented by frequent use of the "walk and talk" storytelling technique. Sorkin has earnedย numerous accolades, including anย Academy Award, aย BAFTA Award, fiveย Primetime Emmy Awards, and threeย Golden Globes.
Sorkin rose to prominence as a writer-creator andย showrunnerย of the television seriesย Sports Night (1998โ2000),ย The West Wingย (1999โ2006),ย Studio 60 on the Sunset Stripย (2006โ07), andย The Newsroomย (2012โ14).ย He is also known for his work onย Broadway, including the playsย A Few Good Menย (1989),ย The Farnsworth Invention (2007),ย To Kill a Mockingbirdย (2018), and the revival ofย Lerner and Loewe's musicalย Camelot (2023).
He wrote the film screenplays forย A Few Good Menย (1992),ย The American Presidentย (1995), and severalย biopics, includingย Charlie Wilson's War (2007),ย Moneyballย (2011), andย Steve Jobsย (2015). For writingย The Social Networkย (2010), he won theย Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He made his directorial film debut withย Molly's Gameย (2017), followed byย The Trial of the Chicago 7ย (2020) andย Being the Ricardosย (2021).
