The DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films produced by DC Studios. The films are based on characters that appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The franchise also includes television series, short films, digital series, and literature. The shared universe, much like the original DC Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. DC Studios releases its films in groups called "Chapters", with the first three chapters collectively known as "The Apokolips Saga" and the following three phases as "The Infinite Earths Saga". The first DCCU film, Superman: Man of Steel (2008), began Chapter One which culminated in the 2012 crossover film Justice League. Chapter Two began with Superman: Warworld (2013) and concluded with The Atom (2015), while Chapter Three began with Batman: Tower of Babel (2016) and concluded with Blue Beetle: Lost Legacy (2019). Black Canary (2021) is the first film in Chapter Four, which concluded with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2022), while Chapter Five began with The Atom and Bumblebee: Brave New World (2023) and will conclude with Suicide Squad (2025). Chapter Six will begin with The Terrifics: The First Leap (2025) and it will conclude with Justice League: Armageddon (2026) and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (2027).
