Compared to the predominantly comedic approach of the 1984 G1 cartoon (at least in the first two seasons), this series more closely matches the serious tone of the Prime series and the Bayverse, with a greater emphasis on action and themes of familial bonds. The series adapts a large scope of story arcs for the characters, with their adventures combining elements of both fantasy and science fiction.
