  • misterwolf Autobot gladiator Megatronus is victorious during a fight in the arena, and he demands that all Cybertronians to be treated as equals. Meanwhile, librarian and clerk Orion Pax, who is the apprentice of Megatronus, becomes concerned with the ongoing war, and asks Megatronus to train him how to fight. He agrees.

  • misterwolf Orion watches closely as Megatronus shoots and slashes his way through the training holograms. After a few days of no success, he manages to overpower the holograms and achieve victory, with Megatronus expressing proudness. Orion joins the Autobot forces and befriends field medic Ratchet and second-in-command Windblade. With Ultra Magnus captured, the Autobots are without a leader, and Windblade refuses to assume temporary command due to Aerialbot leader Skyfire's defiance to her authority; however, when Orion offers to assume it, they accept, as he is highly respected by many Autobots. Under Orion's command, the Autobots defend the entrance to Cybertron's core, Primus, which initially fails, until Megatronus arrives.

  • misterwolf Megatronus shortens his name to Megatron and steps before the High Council to propose his vision for a peaceful society, and it is from there that he begins to unwittingly reveal his true colors. He proclaims the need to throw the old guard with force, and arrogantly demands to be named the next prime, but Orion intervenes, and rightly states that violence is not the answer to peace. He also states "The responsibility of a Prime is about courage, honor, wisdom. We must better than this." The council, moved by Orion's words, deems him worthy of permanent leadership to the Autobot cause, and tasks him with corresponding with Primus himself. They then tell him "Rise, Optimus Prime! For you are the leader of the Autobots. You are the last Prime!"

  • misterwolf His ambitions thwarted, Megatron spitefully severs all ties with his former apprentice and the council, and then leaves. He then joins the Decepticons and is taken to their founder, the Fallen. The Fallen assumes temporary command of the Decepticons and demotes Starscream to second-in-command, while tasking Megatron to destroy what is left of Iacon City; he tells him that if he succeeds, he shall replace Starscream as the leader. Optimus journeys down to the core, while Megatron destroys much of Iacon City and slaughters the Autobots guarding it, before returning to the Fallen. Autobot weapons specialist Ironhide, under Optimus' orders, rescues Magnus and tells him of their new leader. Magnus decides to distract his captors until Optimus can arrive. The spirit of the thirteenth prime, Alpha Trion, appears in Optimus' mind, and guides him to Primus. He also tells him "Your wisdom and courage will never be forgotten. Primus awaits you."

  • misterwolf The Fallen names Megatron as the new leader of the Decepticons, while Starscream leads an unauthorized assault against the Autobot base, which destroys much of their own supply of energon on their ship. Megatron intervenes and angrily destroys the ship before berating Starscream and then violently beating him for defying orders. Optimus corresponds with Primus, who has become poisoned by the war; he states that he can survive if he shuts down his systems, but he acknowledges that it will take billions of years during which Cybertron will be left cold and barren. Optimus realizes that in order for their race to live on, they must leave the planet, and Primus supports this, giving Optimus the Matrix of Leadership. The Matrix enters Optimus' chest, and his appearance, voice, and height changes drastically.

  • misterwolf Back at the Autobot base, Skyfire is seriously wounded by Megatron's attack on Iacon City, and laters dies as Ratchet operates on him, forcing Windblade to take control of the Aerialbots unit. Optimus arrives and declares his intention to rescue Magnus from the Decepticons. The Autobots launch a successful assault while Optimus, Windblade, Ratchet and weapons specialist Ironhide infiltrate the Fallen's Tower. They find and free Ultra Magnus, who acknowledges Optimus as a worthy leader. However, Megatron ambushes them, and Magnus fights him all the way through the tower until reaching the Fallen's throne room.

  • misterwolf As Optimus realizes that his former mentor is truly beyond saving after he tells Megatron the difference between good and evil, the latter says "I have chosen my side." Megatron then kills Magnus, who rusts instantly into nothing. Optimus fights Megatron in self-defense and eventually gains the upper hand when Optimus injures Megatron and throws him out of the tower, though he survives. Optimus then engages the Fallen in a fierce battle that culminates with Optimus as the victor when he rips out his spine.

  • misterwolf In the aftermath, Megatron swears revenge and unites his new Decepticon army, while the Autobots mourn the death of Magnus and attend a funeral for him by disintegrating his mementos and his weapons in an Energon furnace. Optimus and Windblade speculate that evil will never truly perish and they declare all-out war against the Decepticons for their crimes against Cybertron. Optimus vows to inspire hope to all life across the universe as the Autobots chant "Hail Optimus Prime!", and then the end credits roll.
