2 comments on Rose's Power

  • accaffrey Rose is an everyday woman, with an everyday job, living in an everyday town. She owns a small, one-story house where she resides with her elderly grandfather, a former FBI agent until Rose’s parents died in a car crash and he had to take care of her. One day, on her way to work, she notices a young child standing mindlessly in the middle of the street, as a car comes speeding down the road. Rose jumps in the way and pushes the boy away, saving both of them as the car continues driving. That evening, when she gets home, she suddenly feels very strange. She rushes into her room and shuts the door. Although we don’t see what happens, we can tell she experiences something powerful, surprising, and maybe a little painful. Her grandpa hears this and asks if she’s ok. She explains to him that some kind of power erupted from her. Her grandpa explains to her that it’s been in the family for years. Essentially, if you commit a heroic act before the age of 40, you acquire the power. He says that Rose’s father had it, and that he himself used to have it before he got too old. He wraps it up by telling her to use the power wisely, and she goes to sleep pondering the possibilities. The next day, a Saturday, she goes to a coffee shop in the afternoon. She starts going on her computer, but can tell something is up. All of a sudden, guys from every table jump up with guns aimed at Rose. She looks around, and realizes what she can do to save herself. Unfortunately for the audience, a bus passes the outside of the coffee shop, and once again we don’t see her power. Back inside, the entire gang is either dead or near-dead. Rose, still in a little shock, grabs one by the collar and demands answers. He reveals that he works for a crime family, run by married couple Miles and Sofia Goode. The guy claims they were good friends of her mother and father. One night, they found out about their powers, and couldn’t resist the urge to steal them. After a couple years of research, they finally had everything they needed to take the powers. But then Rose’s parents found out. Miles and Sofia decided it would be a safer bet to take them out, and wait for their baby to grow into hers, then take her power. So that’s why they came at Rose. She rushes home and tells her grandpa what happened. He remembers Miles and Sofia, and full of rage he rushes to his old gun compartment. He and Rose take to the road, following Miles and Sofia wherever they go, and it becomes one big cat-and-mouse chase between the two duos. It ends in one big car chase, where Rose has to jump a bridge to escape safely. In a classic James Gunn-slowmo-musicpacked-finale, Grandpa Harvey realizes the car is too heavy to make the jump. So, he decides to jump out the sunroof and into the water. But as he falls and Rose lands, he takes a final shot at Miles and Sofia. It hits Miles, who’s driving, directly in the head, causing the car to swerve into a streetlamp, injuring Sofia. He falls and dies, and Rose makes it to the other side, and vows to use her powers for good.
