When Shadow becomes a Werehog, he gains a split personality. And in the middle of that, he thinks he sees Black Doom. In fact, it's the literalspirit of Black Doom, trying to take Shadow over! That's how he gains a split personality. One minute, he's ordinary Shadow (in mind anyway). But the next minute, he's Black Doom if he possessed Shadow! Shadow's mind fights Black Doom back for his mind, which is why he goes from being collected to crazy.
