  • thecookieprincess The action begins in the late 1970s. The main character-Jacob-is 24 years old. And although he has known about his homosexuality since the age of 15, due to a very hostile and intolerant society and even his family, he decides to hide it by doing what many gay men of the time did-marry a woman. She is (at the beginning of the plot) 23-year-old Fiona, who does not know about his true orientation. Jacob at first treats her as a ‘beard’ and even finds a secret lover(his name is Daniel) with whom he allows himself to cheat. However, as this initially facade marriage continues, something begins to change in Jacob. He begins to feel remorse for the way he treats her, cheats on her. Fiona turns out to be the most wonderful person in the world. She is always there for him when he has a breakdown because of hiding his orientation (which she doesn't know), she supports him, comforts him, hugs him. Jacob undergoes a transformation - he no longer sees her as a cover, and although he knows he can't give her what a real, loving husband would, he gives her something she truly deserves - deep respect, mutual care and fidelity. In doing so, he breaks off contact with Daniel. After a few years, however, the man makes his presence known; Jacob meets him by chance in the park. Unfortunately, it turns out that Fiona, who heard everything, was nearby. She starts to feel cheated and resentful. She arranges a huge argument with Jacob and wants to leave him. Jacob is emotionally pained by this, because although he did not have purely romantic feelings for her, Fiona was the most important person to him - he loved her like a best friend and had a platonic love for her. Fiona moves out, and although Jacob initially tries to fight for her, he understands that he has to let go. Perhaps it's better for both of them? But something cracks inside Fiona. She decides to commit suicide. Jacob, meanwhile, decides to make one last attempt to repair the relationship. When he finds her in the bathroom with her wrist slashed, he experiences a shock and takes her to the hospital as soon as possible. Fiona survives, but Jacob never leaves her side, watches over her, and when she wakes up a few days later, he begins a frank conversation with her and apologises. The woman, having understood his situation, does what she should have done earlier as a Christian - forgive him. Although they parted, they became best friends, but both put their love lives back together.
