Assassin's Creed Apocalypse is set in Cambodia, starting in 1431 during the Angkor period. This era marks the final stage of the Khmer Empire and the beginning of the Middle Period. The game features the historical figure as Ponhea Yat who became Borom Reachea II who was forced to flee Yasodharapura as it was indefensible against attack by the Templar-led Siamese forces, resettling first in Basan (Srey Santhor), but after it became flooded, fled to Chaktomuk (now part of Phnom Penh) especially for the Khmer Brotherhood of Assassins. The Assassins are operated in Chaktomuk as part of their headquarters. The game will explore the whole medieval kingdom of Cambodia and as historical monuments and locations.
