Thread for Specific Criticisms of the new design

Quick update on a few more things in this thread that are now fixed and live:

- the quick suggest popup is wider now, so long names should be easier to read

- we fixed a stale-data bug where a new casting suggestion could show up in one place and then seem to disappear after refresh

- deleting your own casting suggestion should work again

- we also fixed a refresh issue with role reordering, so moving roles should stick more reliably after save

If any of those are still broken for you now, reply with the exact page URL and what happened.

I really dont like the new aesthetics. I miss the simplicity of the old site. Making things more complicated just makes them more chaotic.

Like, I miss being able to just click on a role and get taken to the role rather than the top actor's page. I don't like that Newest suggestions pop up first instead of oldest. I don't like how you have to scroll in order to see stuff that used to all be in the same place, like Add Roles and stuff. I don't like that on actor pages, you can't choose to click between Roles and Story anymore, you have to go to the role page. I don't like that roles without pictures now show a blank image instead of defaulting to the Story's pic. I don't like how big the images are. I don't like how easy it is to confirm a casting on accident, I don't like how ANYTHING looks.

I do like being able to add lore bibles and spotify songs to a cast tho. I love making playlists.

Another fix is live: private message notification emails now use the right message wording and link again instead of falling back to the generic notification email.

The order of suggestions is all wrong! Our first suggestions should be first!

It seems like the site is crashing less often. But when I click on a character, it often reports an error again. The worst part, though, is the change in the layout of the story’s home page. In a number of stories, I haven’t uploaded character images, so will I now see a larger empty frame and a smaller one with the actor or actress? I really don’t want that, because it doesn’t look good. I’d prefer to have the option to display only one frame with the actor, or in stories where I have all the character images, to choose the other option.

the site keeps crashing whenever I try to click into a role in one of my stories and when i try to click into one of my older stories. Also the option to change the actor image is gone.

Now for whatever reason the roles on my stories are unavailable and not loading.

Things are getting somewhat better, but I can't change the image of my suggestions. I can't edit roles in my stories. The "Next Role" & "Prev Role" buttons are gone!

- can't seem to edit Talent profiles. i'm trying to correct an actor's birthday.

And another thing (assuming those in charge are benevolent): once I add a role to a story—whether my story or another—I can never alter it again.

I get error messages on every single one of my story I click on. I can't open any of them and instead gets a 404 RECOVERY ”That story went missing”.

All suggestions for role in my latest story disappear when i click into them.

Every time I try to put in a photo of a character the same length as the one the website shows, it always enlarges! I don't need it that close!

@ SpiderSonicPrime: I also have this problem with inserting photos to characters. Every time I try to insert it, it gets disproportionately large. And then when I try to reduce the image on the computer, its quality deteriorates. This problem does not exist with inserting photos in the talent profile. So the fix should be easy.

notifications for people interacting with your story being grouped up is terrible, also clicking on the notification for what they interacted with just takes you to the overall story and not specifically the thing they interacted with.

roles on your story's max number of characters before it trails off into a ... is also terrible, the text should go down to the next line.

i want to clarify, on my last post, that clicking on the notification within the GROUP notification is what i am specifically calling out.

I have a Marvel story planned, but I'm not sure I want to upload it yet in this layout. I have some characters I have no clue who to cast as. I usually leave those roles open for other users to make suggestions. This update won't let me allow others to make suggestions on some roles. I need that back.

Okay, I'll list the annoying issues that need fixing.

1) Casting suggestions are out of order in private stories. Previously, the first actor I thought of for the role was featured, but now it's the last actor. Adding the option to choose the order would be a plus, especially for rankings.

2) Character photos are now featured instead of the actor's photo, which looks unprofessional and unpresentable. Remember, we're primarily choosing the actor, so it would be nice to feature the actor's photo instead of the character photo we added.

3) As others have mentioned, when you add a role, it doesn't appear immediately. You have to constantly refresh the page several times.

4) You can no longer add an actor who doesn't yet have a profile created through the casting search. This is unacceptable.

5) The summary, which now appears all in a line on the left, is very poorly formatted instead of being centered.

And there are surely others, but these are the most bothersome for me. I have over 500 stories; I don't want to have to re-enter the entire order of my chosen castings.

@SpiderSonicPrime I completely agree with your point 5); I thought I was the only one bothered by it.

I often see “story not found” both in my stories and in other users' stories, I hit F5 and sometimes appeara and sometimes don't, it's so frustrating.

using the advanced search function for casting an actor; when you use it the first time, it clears your previous search parameters when you press search, so if you want to further refine your search, you have to reenter everything else again. it should not do this, it should always maintain your previous search criteria
