Each film explores a different stage of his life and his descent into madness, driven by his obsession to find—and keep—true love. Over the course of five films, Joe becomes a symbol of human duality: a man who yearns for connection, yet is doomed by his drive to control, possess, and eliminate everything that stands in the way of his idealized vision of love. Each installment takes him to a new city, a new woman, and a new identity, as his crimes pile up and the tension escalates. From a New York bookstore to an elegant London castle, Joe weaves a web of lies, murder, and manipulation, eventually becoming one of the world's most wanted criminals.
