Biography

he Monk or The Mad Monk is a vampire super-villain of Batman. He was the second super-villain ever fought by Batman in publication history as well as the main-antagonist of Batman's first ever two-part storyline. Along with this, the Monk's henchwoman Dala is the first female Batman villain in publication history. In his original appearance he was never given a name or backstory. In the silver age he was named Louis DuBois and given an origin which was retconned following Crisis on Infinite Eartha with him being reintroduced as Niccolai Tepes (an allusion to the real life Vlad Dracula who was known as Vlad Tepes which translates to Vlad the Impaler).
