Russell Ira Crowe (born April 7, 1964)Β is a New Zealand actor and film director.Β His work on screenΒ has earned himΒ various accolades, including anΒ Academy Award, twoΒ Golden Globe Awards, and aΒ British Academy Film Award.
Crowe was born in New Zealand, spending ten years of his childhood in Australia and residing there permanently by age 21.Β He began acting in Australia and had his break-out role inΒ Romper StomperΒ (1992). He gained international recognition in the late 1990s for his starring roles inΒ L.A. ConfidentialΒ (1997) andΒ The InsiderΒ (1999). Crowe gained wider stardom for playing the title role ofΒ GladiatorΒ (2000), which earned him theΒ Academy Award for Best Actor. Further acclaim came for portraying real-life mathematicianΒ John Forbes Nash Jr.Β inΒ A Beautiful MindΒ (2001).
