As he was growing up the desire to be an actor was also growing with him. He used to visualize (even at a very young age) where he was going to shoot his films and songs. He was doubted by his family and friends who thought this acting craze would soon faze. When he was 16 years of age he had a choice of going to London, Germany or India for further studies.

When he completed his BA. Hashmat wanted to move to Mumbai to start his career in films. His father, (who was Deputy Speaker of Parliament for 4 terms in Kabul Afghanistan), like any other father, wanted him to join Politics. His father made a deal with Hashmat and said if Hashmat finished his MA. in Political Science, he would not stop him from joining films. Hashmat had a dream, and he was not going to let anything stand in his way. He finished his MA. and moved to Mumbai.
