Desiree Carole Heslop, best known as Princess, is a British singer.
After her father's hit song, "Keep on Smiling", Desiree was discovered by afro rock group Osibisa, who she worked with as a backing vocalist from 1978 to 1981.
After working as a fashion consultant; Desiree's older brother Donovan, a DJ, heard her singing at home, and made two demo tracks for her "If Pigs Could Fly" and "Let The Night Take The Blame".
These tracks got her noticed by employees at The Hit Factory; who had Desiree record some backing vocals on the Brilliant album "Kiss The Lips of Life". And those sessions got her noticed by producing trio Stock Aitken Waterman.
After Donovan changed Desiree's stagename to "Princess", the producing trio wrote "Say I'm Your Number One" which peaked at NO. 7 in the UK in 1985. After this hit, the producers made four more singles with Princess from 1985 to 1986; all made the Top 40 in the UK. After her self-titled debut album released that year, and she collaborated in Ferry Aid's production of Let It Be, she left the Stock Aitken Waterman label to Polydor.
Writing her own songs now, she released "Red Hot!" in 1987, and it made the Top 100. Her next song, a cover of "I Wish You Love" failed to chart, but her next two songs "I Cannot Carry On" and "Jammin' With Your Love" were semi-successful. These were to support her second studio album, "All For Love".
The album wasn't too successful due to four production teams working on it, so for Princess' next release, she self-wrote and produced every song with brother Donovan; releasing them under Touch Tone Tecords. The releases included "Lover Don't Go", "Dressed To Kill", "I Can't Say Goodbye" and a cover of "The Sweeter He Is" which were issued in 1989 to her 1990 album "Say It".
After it only sold 400 copies, Princess gave up on her music career, moving to America after her mother's death. She provided backing vocals to songs by Vanilla Ice, Rogue Unit, and Chaka Khan. In 1998; she re-released "The Sweeter He Is", and caught the attention of its' original writer, Isaac Hayes.
After another five-year dissapearance, she and Donovan appeared in 2003, forming record label OnDa Ground Music Label and writing/producing a comeback rap hit "Ride" with E.E.D.B. It was not successful; and neither were Princess' next songs "Money The Hottest Expression" and "One Away". However, after nearly ten years of trying to produce a new album, in 2013 Princess released smash hits "I'm Gonna Love Ya" and "I'm On Fire", to her 2014 album "The Emergence".
After forming band The Krown Jewels, Princess released multiple songs including "London Town", "Send In The Clowns", and "Baltimore".
In 2019; after releasing single "So Far From My Baby" she released an EP - "The Passion Part 1" co-produced by The Krown Jewels. It was the first half of a two-part album, the second in a trilogy The Emergence The Passion The One.
While part two of The Passion has not released; she has made four songs from it - ambient track "Silhouettes in the Dark", ballad "Will You Call Me", rap "WAH" and quiet storm track "Stay, With Me".
