Bruce Lorne CampbellΒ (born June 22, 1958) is an American actor and filmmaker. He is known best for beingΒ Ash WilliamsΒ inΒ Sam Raimi'sΒ Evil DeadΒ horror series, beginning with the short movieΒ Within the WoodsΒ (1978). He has also featured in many low-budgetΒ cult movies, such asΒ CrimewaveΒ (1985),Β Maniac CopΒ (1988),Β Sundown: The Vampire in RetreatΒ (1989), andΒ Bubba Ho-TepΒ (2002).
Campbell had the main roles in the television seriesΒ The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. (1993β1994) andΒ Jack of All TradesΒ (2000), and a recurring role asΒ Autolycus, King of ThievesΒ inΒ Hercules: The Legendary JourneysΒ (1995β1999) andΒ Xena: Warrior PrincessΒ (1995β1999). He playedΒ Sam AxeΒ on theΒ USA NetworkΒ seriesΒ Burn NoticeΒ (2007β2013) and reprised his role as Ash for theΒ StarzΒ seriesΒ Ash vs. Evil DeadΒ (2015β2018). He also appeared inΒ The EscortΒ (2015).
Campbell directed, produced, and featured in the documentariesΒ FanalysisΒ (2002) andΒ A Community SpeaksΒ (2004); co-wrote, directed, produced, and featured in the movieΒ Man with the Screaming BrainΒ (2005); and directed, produced, and featured in a parody of his careerΒ My Name Is BruceΒ (2007).
Campbell is known for frequent collaborations with Raimi, his brotherΒ Ted,Β Josh Becker, andΒ Scott Spiegel.
