Aya Ikeuchi
Aya Ikeuchi, the protagonist in the book "1 Litre of Tears" (also known as "1 Litre no Namida"), is based on the real-life story of Aya Kitō. Aya Kitō was born on July 19, 1962, in Toyohashi, Aichi, Japan. At the age of 15, she was diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia, a degenerative disease that affects motor functions. Despite her diagnosis, Aya continued to write a diary documenting her daily struggles and emotions. Her diary was later published as "1 Litre of Tears" and has touched millions of readers worldwide. Aya passed away on May 23, 1988, at the age of 25 due to complications from her disease.
