Winter Rage is a 2025 American neo-Western survival film directed by Joe Carnahan (who also co-produced with Ridley Scott) from a screenplay by Jerry Bruckheimer and Taylor Sheridan. The first installment in the Winter Rage film series and distributed by Lionsgate, it stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Piper Rubio, Sam Richardson, Liam Neeson, Betty Gilpin, and Keegan-Michael Key. In the film, a 12-year-old girl and her younger sister must fend for themselves after becoming orphaned and refusing to be placed into foster care. Knowing that they will be kidnapped or killed by a mysterious figure following them, they seek help from their godfather, cousin, and grandfather, who all realize that they are safer not being adopted but still agree to aid them. Winter Rage premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on November 23rd, 2025, and was released in theaters on December 11th; it received generally positive reviews with praise for Armstrong and Rubio's performances, Carnahan's direction, the action sequences, and Hans Zimmer's musical score, while the film's graphic violence and portrayal of stalkers drew controversy. It grossed over $1.28 billion worldwide against a budget of $132 million and a break-even point of $260 million, making it the sixth-highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and Carnahan's highest-grossing film. A sequel is in development.
