William Abbott, who is usually called Bud, is the manager of the baseball team. He seems very formal on the surface but is in fact fun and interesting inside. Bud's fiance breaks up with him near the start of the movie, which causes him to become depressed. Other characters try to motivate Bud to become happier, but it is difficult. He makes rash decisions and becomes very aggressive before they can. This causes him to seem like an antagonist until later in the movie.
