  • benjaminmiller1 I know Richard Griffiths had been in the talks to play The Doctor since Tom Baker was departing from Doctor Who after 7 years, even though it hadn't been confirmed who would take over the role from Sylvester McCoy if Doctor Who had survived cancellation in 1989 but I believe he would have recommended Paul McGann to whoever is going to take over from John Nathan - Turner as The Producer to take over, just like William Hartnell suggested Patrick Troughton to the higher ups of the BBC. Because Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are actually close friends in real life so it would make sense for Sylvester McCoy to suggest Paul McGann to succeed him.
