"I cannot tell a lie." In the film's opening sequence, we see a young George Washington receive a hatchet from his father for his 6th birthday, and play with it. He damages his father's cherry tree in the process... or did he? Washington may have been honest in real life, but the cherry tree anecdote is a myth. Regardless, I'm including it here to provide some characterization for Washington's personality later on.
