Orsino, duke of Illyria, has a problem. He is madly, passionately in love with Countess Olivia, but she refuses to have anything to do with him. Refusing to accept "no" for an answer, he decides to send his new page, Cesario (secretly Viola), to remind Olivia of his undying affection. Sure that he will one day wed his sweetheart, Orsino remains completely oblivious to the fact that his page is falling in love with him and Olivia is falling in love with his page.
