Description of Captain Smith:
A retired merchant sailor who serves as the Thornberry's guide to Scotland. He has seen Nessie with his own eyes, and he helps Eliza to find the creature and prove to everyone that he wasn't making it up. But after seeing how happy she is with her mate and children and realizing that exsposing them will endanger them he decides to keep it a secret.
