Kerick is not a very nice man. He's a poacher, he kills animals for money. His son, Patalamon, is also a poacher along with the rest of the crew who works for the notorious Captain Morris McTrevor. Kerick is very superstitious and thinks that Kotick is a ghost of all the seals that he and the crew ever killed while Patalamon knows that Kotick is a real white seal. Even worse, Captain McTrevor knows a fortune when he hears one; therefore, our white, furry hero had better find a new home for him and his fellow seals before it's too late.
