Synopsis

The film is based on the 1993 debut novel by Jeffrey Eugenides. The film follows the lives of five adolescent sisters in an upper-middle-class suburb of Detroit during 1975. The story of five sisters, and their mysterious existence. The film follows the chain of events initiated by one of the Lisbon sisters' suicide attempt, and its effects on their family, their suburban town and most importantly, the young men who loved the Lisbons from afar and whose words provide the narrative for the film.

"Mr. Lisbon is Cecilia, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese’s father. He’s a math teacher at the local high school and is a meek, reserved man. He and Mrs. Lisbon have strict rules about what their daughters are allowed to do, but Mr. Lisbon seems less adamant about upholding them."
