Synopsis

When his father dies, young Henry Tudor ascends the throne of England to become Henry VIII. He's a breath of fresh air, full of life, a true renaissance prince. But as the years go by with no surviving legitimate sons, Henry begins to harbor doubts about the validity of his marriage to his queen, Catherine of Aragon. Faced with a pressing need for a male heir, his obsession with the glamorous Anne Boleyn, and a changing religious landscape, Henry must take drastic measures to ensure that his dynasty will survive. Focuses on Henry VIII's reign up to his marriage to Anne Boleyn and his break with Rome.

Description of Catherine of Aragon (Queen of England):

Catherine is a direct descendant of the Spanish royal line, the youngest daughter of Queen Isabella of Castille and King Ferdinand of Aragon. Crowned in 1509 before her marriage to Henry was annulled in 1533, she was a charitable and popular queen, a pious Catholic, and a devoted mother and wife. While she was cheated on by her husband many times, his infidelities even resulting in a son by her maid Bessie Blount, she never called him out on it and confides to her maids that he blames her for being unable to produce a son.
