Synopsis

Sixteen-year-old Malencia (Cia) Vale is an aspiring student from Five Lakes Colony in future dystopian America. In a mission to revitalize the earth after years of civil and chemical warfare, the United Commonwealth has devised an intense series of tests to pick out the most talented to guide their country back to its former glory. Cia is excited to be chosen along with three other classmates, including the kind and charming Tomas Endress. But when her father, a former Testing candidate himself, reveals the horrifying dreams that have followed his mandatory memory wipe, Cia finds herself caught in a whirlwind of heartbreak, treachery, and people who will do whatever it takes to stay on top. Description of Will Donovan:

Will is a witty, roguish Testing candidate who befriends the Five Lakes students during the first phase of Testing. His bright attitude and carefree personality begin to fade when his twin brother Gill fails, causing distraction and sadness to cloud his judgment. A chance meeting during the fourth phase results in his joining Cia and Tomas, but a strain soon develops as he and Tomas become mutually suspicious of one another.
