Rex is a living element, mutated by Stagg and Luthor’s experimentation, and later rescued by Superman and Holt. Though powerful, Rex sees himself as grotesque; a failed man in a monstrous shell. He joins Holt out of loyalty and desperation, hoping to be useful. In the Dark Multiverse, Rex’s physical instability worsens, and he’s haunted by memories of Sapphire Stagg, whom he still loves. His arc centers on reclaiming his sense of humanity despite being something else entirely.
