Dr. Hank Pym is a brilliant yet socially isolated biochemist haunted by the tragic murder of his first wife, Maria. Obsessed with making a revolutionary scientific breakthrough, Pym develops "Pym Particles," a subatomic substance capable of shrinking matter. During a dangerous initial self-test, he gets trapped inside an anthill at insect size and barely survives, an experience that inspires him to forge a cybernetic helmet capable of communicating with ants alongside a specialized shrinking suit. Driven by a newfound desire to protect humanity from hidden threats, Hank assumes the secret identity of Ant-Man. His early solo heroics attract the attention of cold war espionage operatives and criminal minds, including the disgraced mad scientist Elihas Starr, better known as Egghead, who plots to steal Pym's research and turn his own insect allies against him. As Hank struggles with severe self-doubt, social anxiety, and the psychological burden of his double life, he meets socialite Janet van Dyne, whose scientist father is suddenly murdered by a lethal alien force known as the Creature from Kosmos. Uniting over shared grief and a drive for justice, Hank reveals his secret identity to Janet and uses his technology to alter her physiology, granting her bio-synthetic wings and stingers to transform her into the Wasp. Together, the duo defeats the alien threat and establishes a crime-fighting partnership. By refining Silver Age continuity into a modern character study, this movie focuses entirely on Hank Pym's internal flaws, his romance with Janet, and his initial solitary steps as a street-level protector long before the Avengers ever assemble.
