During our first Avengers mission, a golden guardian flies alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The Sentry rescues civilians on the street while the Avengers fight the Masters of Evil. In the aftermath, the core Avengers offer him a spot on the roster. The memory abruptly cuts to the present inside the Raft. A disheveled, bearded Bob Reynolds sits in a dark cell, starved and sleep deprived. Footsteps echo down the hall, triggering another flashback. During the war against Ultron, the Sentry destroys thousands of drones until a towering, autonomous shadow manifests beneath him. Whispering, "No, no, no," Bob recognizes the Void-his own malicious, cosmic alter-ego. Realizing the Void's power expands proportionally to his own light, a desperate Sentry seeks out the Ancient One. He begs the Sorcerer Supreme to kill him, but his invulnerability makes suicide impossible. Instead, she enacts a global spell of erasure. The world completely forgets the Sentry ever existed, stripping Bob of his memories and deactivating his powers, which forces the Void into non-existence. Though amnesiac, Bob is still haunted by lingering guilt. He voluntarily surrenders to SHIELD, demanding permanent isolation to prevent a universal extinction. Back in the present, Doctor Doom steps into the cell. Driven by ambition, Doom has uncovered the archives and tracked down the Sentry. Doom demands Bob's reality-warping power, sneering, "Bob Reynolds... you have something I want." Bob hollowly replies, "I promise... you don't want this." A duel erupts between them and Doom attempts to siphon his energy. The trauma forces Bob's memories and golden abilities to resurface. Mid-battle, Bob unlocks an epiphany: the Void only manifests when he has panic and emotional extremes. Controlling his mind, Sentry subdues Doom and returns to the world haunted, powerful, and restricting his own power usage.
