The second installment in China Miéville's Bas-Lag Cycle. The Scar is set in the floating pirate city of Armada, where the crew and passengers of captured ships are press-ganged into lifelong, compulsory citizenship.
When the prisoner transport Terpsichoria is captured by Armadan pirates, the survivors must learn to adapt to life in this new city. For Remade prisoner Tanner Sack, this capture means rescue from a life of slavery. For passenger Bellis Coldwine, it means permanent exile from her home, New Crobuzon.
