The first season of the American television series The Marauders, based on the Harry Potter series, follows James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus, Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Lily Evans and Severus Snape starting their time at school. The season is set in the Fantasy Cinematic Universe (MCU) and acknowledges the continuity of the franchise's films. It was produced by BBC Studios, British Television, and Mutant Enemy Productions, with Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell serving as showrunners. Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane reprises their roles from the film series, and is joined by series regulars Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ben Barnes, Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Karen Gillan and Louis Garrel. The season aired on ABC from September 24, 2013, to December 13, 2013, and consists of 10 episodes. Its pilot episode was watched by 12.12 million viewers, the highest ratings received by the first episode of a drama series since 2009, but ratings decreased as the season progressed. The reception was positive with critics praising the performances and production. Season 2 aired in October 2009.
