Jonathan Sims, the new Head Archivist, is working on digitizing the statements given by people and researched by the institution he works in, called the Magnus Institute, and fixing the mess left behind by Gertrude Robinson, the previous one. As the story goes on, he finds out more secrets about the statements, and the institute itself.
