Jan Hus was a prominent theologian, preacher and medieval church reformer, whose teachings gave rise to the Hussite movement and initiated the reform of the Church of that time. He was burned at the stake in Constance on July 6, 1415. After John Wycliffe, whose ideas and arguments he was inspired by, Hus was one of the first reformers of the Church and was almost a century ahead of his followers such as Martin Luther and others. His legacy was claimed by the Hussites, who emerged from the Bohemian and Protestant Reformations. The Hussites included most of the Bohemian population in the Kingdom of Bohemia, created a large military force, and defeated several crusades during the Hussite Wars.
