Synopsis

On the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell and Haymitch Abernathy (Rudy Pankow) and Maysilee Donner (Dakota Fanning), are chosen as this year's tributes and Coriolanus Snow (Kiefer Sutherland) had the Capitol reap double the amount of tributes to compete in the Hunger Games. While in the arena, Haymitch realizes that a forcefield surrounds the arena and that anything thrown at it bounces back. After he failed to save Maysilee he continued on with his journey until in his final showdown with a Career girl from District 1, Haymitch strategically dodges her axe throw and allows it to hit the forcefield, where it bounces back and hits her in the face, killing her and making him the winner of the games since he has outsmarted the other tributes. As punishment for his reckless actions in the arena by cheating to his advantage, Haymitch's mother, father, brother, and his girlfriend get killed by peacekeepers under the orders of President Snow.
