Synopsis

When planet Earth is demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass by an unpleasant bureaucratic alien race known as the Vogons, hapless Englishman Arthur Dent narrowly escapes thanks to his best friend Ford Prefect, a Betelgeusian galactic hitch-hiker and contributing writer for the titular guide, who is not an out-of-work actor from Guildford as he had hitherto claimed. Arthur, still in his dressing gown, is subsequently dragged from one crisis to the next on a series of misadventures across the galaxy.

Description of Zaphod Beeblebrox:

The President of the Galaxy, Zaphod, or "Big Z' as he's sometimes called, is a two-headed, three armed alien from Betelgeuse V. Zaphod is said to be "clever, imaginative, irresponsible, untrustworthy, extrovert, nothing you couldn't have guessed." He used his position as President of the Galaxy to steal the Heart of Gold, a spaceship taking advantage of the Infinite Improbability Drive, at its unveiling, with his semi-cousin For Prefect soon hitching a ride with Arthur Dent in tow to escape the demolition of Earth.
