Synopsis

Valyn, Kaden and Adare, the three grown children of the recently assassinated Annurian Emperor, are scattered across the world, set on different life-paths by their father without explanation. Valyn is training with the Kettral, an elite special ops force that flies covert military missions on giant hawks. Kaden is an acolyte studying the ancient mysteries of the Shin monks high in the Bone Mountains. And Adare remains at home in the Dawn Palace, navigating the complex ins and outs of Annurian politics. With the murder of their father, each has become a potential heir to the throne and target of the same insidious conspiracy responsible for his death. Will sibling rivalry and mistrust keep them apart? Or will they come together to defeat the real enemy threatening the empire and all of humanity...

Description of Adare:

Sanlitun’s oldest child at 21, Adare has the burning eyes of Intarra, but will never sit the Throne due to her gender (historically, no other female descendants of the Malkeenian line have had the eyes – they don’t know what to do with her). Of Sanlitun’s children, she is the smartest, especially in matters of book-learning, history and politics. The emperor, recognizing her abilities, grooms her to serve as Minister of Finance, one of the most important posts in the Empire, upon his death.
