Set 20 years after the first film, Conrad and Sally are now all grown up. Sally has become a famous movie director, while Conrad has taken his late mother's position as a real estate agent, and has lost his sense of wonder. But one day, he gets a visit from The Cat in the Hat, who tries to remind him of the cheeky, reckless Conrad he knew. Conrad also discovers that his father, Leonard Walden, is still alive and working in New York, so he recruits Sally and the Cat to leave the comfort of their home in Anville and find him.
