The Bounty of Ryder is a 2025 American Western action film written and directed by James Mangold. Produced by Legendary Pictures and New Line Cinema, distributed by Lionsgate, and narrated by Armstrong, it is the first installment in the Chronicles of Charlotte Ryder film series (and the second chronologically). The film features an ensemble cast that includes Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Vincent D'Onofrio, Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, Tony Todd, and Samuel L. Jackson. Set in 1867, it follows a middle-aged bounty hunter who retired and settled down with his wife (Winslet) and daughter (Armstrong) as he is forced by his violent former superior (D'Onofrio) to hunt down their marshall and boss (Todd) after his family is threatened. The Bounty of Ryder was released in theaters on November 29th, 2025; it grossed over $815 million and became a financial success and the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2025. The film received generally positive reviews, with praise for its style and action sequences, as well as DiCaprio, Armstrong, D'Onofrio, Todd, and Jackson's performances, but criticism for its complex portrayal of gangs and the violent content. A prequel entitled The Bounty of Ryder Part II was released the following year, while a proper sequel is also in development.
