Solomon was the son of King David and Bathsheba and became the third king of Israel. When God offered him anything he desired, Solomon asked for wisdom to govern God's people, and God granted him extraordinary wisdom along with great wealth and honor. He built the magnificent Temple in Jerusalem, fulfilling a major purpose in Israel's worship. Solomon was also a writer associated with biblical books such as Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. However, despite his wisdom and greatness, Solomon later turned away from wholehearted devotion to God by allowing his many foreign wives to influence him toward idolatry, making his life both a remarkable example of God's blessing and a warning about the dangers of turning away from Him.
